2000 silverado 1500 radio question

The stock radio in my 2000 silverado 1500 has a cd/aux button but I can't find an aux input anywhere. Any ideas oppo?

You don’t have one. It’s programmed to accept one so they could use the same unit anywhere they wanted, but if you can’t find the input jack it was never installed. I got an aftermarket module that plugs in between the existing wiring and the head unit, but if you’re handy with electronics it would be WAY cheaper just to wire it yourself.

I went that way even though it was around $80 because:

- I don’t know the first thing about wiring one in myself.

- I don’t like the looks of aftermarket single DIN’s in a double DIN dash, and double DIN’s are $$$.

- Didn’t want to pay for a full nav double DIN, and didn’t want one without nav.

- The stock head unit includes the control of the chimes, i.e. low fuel. I didn’t want to lose that, and while you can get aftermarket modules that restore that function I figured I’d rather get the aux module than a pricy unit that didn’t work 100% and yet another unit to make it work.

I had a similar radio in my S10. There is no aux input in the modern sense. It was used to connect to a CD changer or tape deck in some vehicles that had them as an option. (I seem to recall mid-90's Tahoes/Suburbans having an optional remote tape deck down under the ash tray.) You can find an adapter that connects to the back of the radio and turns that into a 3.5mm jack. They were popular around 2005, but are probably out of production now so eBay would be your best bet if you want to go that route. I would recommend just replacing the whole unit with an aftermarket one. Those stock ones don't last. Mine had buttons that didn't work and paint worn off leaving bright glowing orbs by 50,000 miles.

The CD/aux is via a proprietary port for a 6 disk changer. There are adapters you can buy that really don’t cost much though. (About $40)

The AUX refers to the tape deck. Youths.

Some trucks had the tape deck (like mine) but all had the same button to save money I guess. It switches the tape deck on in my Suburban.

I looked into this for the SS and yeah, it’s possible to add an input but I’m no good with electronics.

Sadly no tape deck in mine. I had hoped for the best with the lack of cd charger and tape deck.

No. Like I said smallbear cannot into electronics.

All I know is you’ll want some sort of resistor that is designed to insulate the circuit so you don’t get a buzz, and a good, solid ground for the same reason.

I liked the look too, but I guess I was harder on the buttons. I recall the most regulars me company that made the adapters being PAC. They were around $100 a decade ago, but you can probably find them cheaper now. I think someone else replied with an Amazon link to one that was under $40. At that price I would grab one.

I may go that route. I’ve found a few DIY options just splicing in to the radio itself. May go that route when running some auxiliary switches in the dash, and fixing the tow/haul.

There is a port in the back made to accept a cd changer. You’d have to get an adapter to be able to use it with an iPod or other device. When I put a 96 Tahoe radio (96%) similar to yours, but mine had a tape deck. This site will help you out. They are a god send OEM Radio
